Fear of the Unknown...

I love the music set to this video.  It fits so perfectly.  It's also a wonderful example of how worked up we can get ourselves when we face something we've never dealt with before...

Yes.  There is a reason for my choice of this video today.  I am facing something I've never dealt with before.  The doctor called me a day early.  He called yesterday and asked how my breast was feeling after the 'nerve incident' on Tuesday.  I told him it was still sore but not nearly as bad as the day it happened.  Ice packs and ibuprofen kept me reasonably comfortable.  Of course I asked him if he'd heard anything back from the biopsy.  He had.  The samples are malignant.  I have breast cancer.

I'm meeting with another doctor tomorrow, to discuss my treatment options.  It appears my first decision will be lumpectomy or mastectomy.

Now, I need to learn everything that I can about my cancer and my options.  Once I have more knowledge, I don't think it will feel quite so scary...

  1. Geez, Nancy, I don't even know what to say. I will be praying for you and my heart goes out to you because of what you have already been through and what you face.

  2. Oh wow, Nancy. I'm not going to say I'm so sorry, because I know you'll get through this and come out clean as a whistle. You will be in our thoughts, most definitely. Keep on truckin' hun :) You'll get through it. *big sheepie hugs*

  3. Good grief, girl. You don't deserve this. But I sure know if anyone can come through it smelling like a rose it would be you.

    (big hug)

  4. Nancy, if the Lord doesn't give us any more than we can handle (and I believe with all my heart that He doesn't), you are SUPERWOMAN! Your news, stacked up on all the rest that I've read about on your blog the last several years, almost makes ME stagger, so I will be praying for extra strength for you....

I agree with Michelle... you are SUPERWOMAN Mom! I love you!

  9. Oh Nancy, I'm so sorry you have had to deal with that news. I shall pray for you to have courage and deal with this in your usual brave way. I know you can do it and your friends on here are going to help you through it.
I'm sending you my love today xxx

  10. Sorry to hear the news Nancy. I have had several horsey friends go through this in the past few years and do well though. If they have caught it early prognosis can be good. Email me at if you would like me to put you in touch with them. You are in my thoughts and prayers and I hope for some good news from you soon.

  11. When it rains, it pours. They have made great strides in treatment in the last few years. My thoughts are with you. I am so glad that you will be moving to be closer to your family.

  12. Hard news but you can get through this one too! Prayers are being lifted up for you!

    Hi Nancy,

You are right, more knowledge will help as well as your innate strength (I agree with the other friends above--you are Superwoman!) You are rich in friends and family, too, and we're all there with you, 100%. It is pretty interesting and also very hopeful how many advances there have been in treatment in the last few years. thinking of you and praying for you--more on E-mail--kitten video is great--I feel like that when I'm facing uncertainty and the unknown, too.

  14. Nancy your past year has been nothing short of staggering. I suspect that something profound is waiting for you after all this; all you have to do is keep on being the strong person you have been and that something will take you on to places you cannot now imagine. You are in my thoughts now as always.

  15. Oh no Nancy, I'm sorry you got the bad news. But very glad that they must have found it pretty early since you didn't even have a lump. I know a lot of breast cancer survivors and my bet is that you will be one too. Hang in there and yes, do read up girl!

  16. Holy heck, Nancy! What a lot you've had to deal with this year(s). Hang in there, breathe deeply, live in the present (rather than in fear). Like Charlotte said to Wilbur, keep your chin up! Hugs (gently on the sore side)...

  17. When it rains, it pours, eh? The good news is that you've discovered it early enough to do something about it. My mom had estrogenic breast cancer, and had been 18 year survivor with only lumpectomy and radiation when she passed due to other causes (congestive heart failure).

There is so much information out there, and all of your blogpals are sending healing thoughts your way.

Time to slow down and see what you can learn from this portion of your life - I'll bet it's something really special.

  18. I often wonder why God does this but I agree with Michelle that he gives us what he knows we can handle. You will find the strength and will march forward with your head held high. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

  19. THANK YOU ALL for the kind words and prayers! I can assure you that I am no superwoman ~ but I will get through this. There really is no other option.

Thanks for the support. It really means a lot to me...

  20. Just catching up on blogs and was blindsided by your unexpected. I am sure that you will come through it all with lessons and wisdom for the rest of us. Really the last thing you needed on your plate right now, but keeping busy is your specialty, so I know you'll be ready for anything that comes along. My heart and mind are with you - hugs and love to you.
