LGD in Training....

In case you don't know:  LGD stands for
Livestock Guardian Dog.

Sable is four months old now.
She loves to spend time with the sheep and the chickens.

Most of the sheep have gotten quite trusting ~ even friendly ~ with Sable.  For those who haven't yet, Sable instinctively doesn't push things.  She seems to know how to reassure them that she means them no harm.

Sable knows that if she is patient, the sheep will come up to her...

And they do!

Sable is making friends with the sheep!

These two (Sable and Dazzle) have become quite the buddies...

Of course, some of the girls are a little more hesitant to make friends...

That's OK.
Sable's in no hurry...

She's not going anywhere...

DREAM says:

"That Sable IS kind of growing on me!  I guess she can stay..."

Thanks, Dreamer!

That's Enough of That...

Poor Dreamer!
My wonderful Shetland sheep have been SO neglected!
It's my friend Katie W.'s fault.  She's been coming down to my place to help me build pens and condos and perches and roosts and all sorts of stuff for my chickens
Which seem to have taken over my HOUSE!!!

Talk about fresh eggs:
We aim to please our mail-order customers!
Enough about the chickens, let's talk Shetland Sheep!

Sable continues to mingle with the flock, daily, and shows neither fear nor aggression toward our woolly friends.  It's too bad the same thing can't be said for the sheep!

In this photo, Destiny is planning Sable's demise...
Someone left a comment on an earlier post about Zorro being in with ALL of the ewes...

They were right!
Zorro (shown here whispering sweet nothings into Dream's ear!)  decided that he was going to tear down my fences if I didn't let him in with the rest of the ewes and since I'm not big on repairing fences and he's really NOT mine to sell, Zorro got his wish.  There will be LOTS of lambs in the Bluff Country in 2010 after all!  This will be a strange lambing season since I didn't even put my first (unplanned) breeding group together until late December.  We'll be having lambs from late May to early July!!!

ALL of the lambs born this summer will have to be sold as I simply can not care for any more sheep than I have right now, so start thinking of what you might like to add to YOUR flock ithis summer...

I also have fleeces and rovings for sale now and will have many more to come.

Contact me  for availability of colors!

DREAM says:
..." (get out of my spot, Flash Dance!) "
"A $50.00, non-refundable deposit will reserve your choice of the beautiful 2010 lambs!  Make your deposit today so that you can have the lamb of your dreams (maybe even one of MINE!)  from the Bluff Country"...

Good idea, Dreamer!!!

Random Photos...

Bella and Sable

Sable getting to know the sheep

Sable loves spending time with the flock.  She never chases the sheep and knows to stay out of their way if they come at her, but she's not afraid.

The sheep are constantly trying to show her "who's boss" but Sable just thinks it's a game!

For the most part, the flock seems to have accepted my Sable puppy

"Destiny"

"Dazzle" and "Chance"

Did anyone notice anything?

Even in the winter time, Daisy keeps an eye on things...

"Well, SOMEBODY better!"

There's No Turning Back Now....

We had a visitor in the Bluff Country this past weekend.
My Dear Friend, Katie (the wonderful lady who brought Sable home to me from Tennessee) drove down for a weekend of carpentry work!  Katie is experienced with carpentry ~ and suffice it to say that I am NOT ~ so volunteered to help me build some brooder pens for all my upcoming chicks.

OK.  I know.  This is the SHEEP blog.
Enough about chickens!

And that is quite easy to do because it seems that Katie is totally smittinen with my lovely Shetland sheep!

Yes, Katie's got cookies ~ but she's a total stranger to my girls so I gave her a little bribe!
;-)

Chance, of course, quickly discovered that Katie had cookies in her POCKET too!

Dream didn't think she was getting her fair share of the cookies so came back to me to complain about it...

Even Alice & Destiny accepted cookies from Katie!
(Sable was there to give Katie courage)
Actually, she LOVES to go out by the sheep.
(Sable AND Katie)
;-)

We didn't get a whole lot of building done...

But I do believe a new Shetland shepherdess has been born!

It looks like I'll be paying for my carpentry work
with a lamb!

Yup,  there's no turning back for Katie from Wisconsin!

DREAM says...

"I wouldn't count on getting a lot of building done next week either mom!"
