my day off...

It's snowing. I'm not particularly happy about that, but I did know it was coming. The one nice thing I have to say about it is that when I let the dogs out this morning I stood out on the back step (it's plenty warm out ~ I don't expect this snow to last) and looked over the pasture with the ewes & goats. There was almost complete silence. It was so quiet I could literally hear the snow fall! It was the most gentle sound you can imagine. Almost a "shush...". I could also hear a crow, cawing in the distance and SONG BIRDS (!!) singing! That is such a welcome sound to hear. It makes me want to open my windows and let the world back in.

The ewes were lying, peacefully, under a light coating of snow; the goats peaked out of the calf hut and Bella was busy hunting for mice under the two inches of freshly fallen white-stuff. VERY lovely morning.

Since it doesn't look like I'll be spending a lot of time outdoors today, I thought I'd share this "Shepherd Conditioning Workout" with you. It will help prepare you for the months ahead. Fine-hone your sheep catching skills (gotta catch em to shear em) and give you the practice you're going to need to keep all those frisky lambs safely tucked into their paddocks...

DREAM says....

....."Good LUCK with that..."

  1. Oh, that was hilarious. "Bobbing Bobcat" was the best I could do. Surely real sheep are not that fast!

  2. Todd is back in Fort Lauderdale, and Maggie will have a C-section. Sure wish he was close so I could help out. Glad I don't have to be that fast to catch my group. I just have to get them back to the pastures now. The snow here was a "whirling dervish". I didn't enjoy it.

  3. ROFLMAO!!!

I thought I was FAST But apparently am an "Abling Armadillo"! Will have to work on it!

I love the Spring Snows...mostly 'cause I know, as you mentioned< they don't stay around for long. Our birds are singing spring songs, too. Maybe there's hope? :)

Happy Easter! May the Easter Sheep bring ewe lots of chocolate lambs!

  4. OMG, that's too funny. I really like the tranquilizer much easier than the grab and catch scenario that we use around here. :0)

My ES, Dan (that I got about the same time you got Bella) has become my new champion goat catcher. I have two little escapees and Danny takes it upon himself to put them back where they belong and they know he means business! So much easier than trying to catch them myself.

Always enjoy the photos of your sheep and goats. Your rams are gorgeous!!

Happy Easter to you and yours.

    Our new blog:

  5. OMG! I better hon my sheep catching skills. The fastest I got was a "Bobbing Bobcat", and my shearer will be coming in the next couple of weeks.
    Happy Easter "sis"

  6. Nancy: please check my blog. I have a question in today's post that I really need your expertise on! Becca
