The Shepherd's Going to Bed...

It could have been a good day.  I planned on planting LOTS of seeds to start in my brand new (still in the box, in my Jeep!) greenouse.  The morning  started out wonderfully.  I stayed at "Doc's" last night.  He is such a wonderful, kind, good-hearted man!  He always makes me smile.

Unfortunately, on my way home, I hit a patch of ice and rolled my Jeep.  Now, THAT's an experience I've never had before and hope to never have again!   I remember feeling like I'd hit a patch of water on the road.  A pull.  Then fishtailing, sliding, spinning, glass everwhere,   my head flinging around and something smacking the left side of it. THUD.    Snow.  I was SO disoriented.  I couldn't figure out where I was in the vehichle.  My seatbelt (thank God, I always wear one!) was very uncomfortable but I couldn't get out of it.  It took me a minute to realize that I was hanging upside down.   My first thought was "Thank You, God" .  I was alive.  Lucky.

I mangaed to crawl out of my seatbelt and was trying to find my purse with my cell phone.  I didn't think I was badly hurt but my hands were bleeding and my HEELS hurt.  What's up with that???  I knew where my purse should have been but couldn't find it.  It took me awhile to figure out that I was actually searching on the ceiling of the Jeep!

I finally found my purse and managed to crawl out through the tailgate of the Jeep.  All the glass was shattered so I had a good sized opening.  Unfortunately, I crawled out into about 2 feet of snow in the ditch.  And it was still drizzling.  I made my way back up to the road which was so ice covered and slick that I fell two times, trying to walk to the nearest farm.  There's no cell phone reception in my valley.  I finially decided that it was too dangerous to walk so I went back by the Jeep and sat on the side of the road, waiting for help.

Doc always asks me to call him when I get home to let him know that I made it OK.  When I didn't call ~ or answer his calls to my home phone ~ he came looking for me.  Needless to say, my poor Honey felt TERRIBLE.  He helped me into his car and brought me home.  He gave me the name of a garage to call to get the Jeep towed and then went back to the scene of the accident and got my greenhouse ( I hope it's not damaged) out of the back of the Jeep and brought it home to me.  I had told him that I was worried someone would steal it.  I scolded Doc for driving back and forth on the icy roads and he promised me he would go straight home.

I'm not sure what I'll do now.  I only have liability  insurance on the Jeep as it's a 1994 with over 220 thousand miles on it.  But it was dependable and I needed the 4-wheel drive out here in the Bluff Country.  I'm not going to think about that now.

I took care of the morning necessities with my animals and now, I've got an ice pack on my neck/shoulder and I'm going to bed.

DREAM says:

"You just rest Mom.  We're all grateful that you're OK!"

Thanks, Dreamer.
Me TOO!

  4. Geez Nancy, I hope you are okay. Maybe you should go and get checked out just to be sure? I came 'that ' close to doing the same thing about a month ago. I'm so sorry this happened, but so glad you came out of it as well as you do. Take care of yourself.

  8. What a frightening experience! Like everyone else, I'm just happy you are basically OK - that's the important thing. I've never rolled, but have had many accidents, some injuries, and it is never easy to deal with. I'm so glad Doc followed up when you didn't call!

Yikes, Nancy, Sorry to hear about the accident and glad you had your seatbelt on and are reasonably ok, but be careful, all right? And if anything seems not right please go get checked out at the Dr..

  15. Nancy,

Sending hugs, prayers and good thoughts your way. You will be stiff tomorrow!! A good soak in a warm epsom salts bath may help, especially with a bit of lavendar essential oil added after you sink into the warm water. Take care.

Nancy, that is SO scary! I am thrilled you are not more seriously hurt and you were saved quickly. Chores can wait while you recover.

  20. It is at those moments when we count our blessing. I am glad to hear that you are okay but do take the time to go to the doctors to play it safe:)

  21. Nancy I am so sorry that happened to you. Glad you are okay. I think you should go to the doctors to get the once over just to be sure. My nephew rolled his car not too long along and they wanted to keep an eye on him (even though he felt fine) for a few days to make sure his seat belt didn't cause any internal injuries since his air bags failed to go off. Better be safe and take the very best care of yourself.

  22. Oh Nancy - how terrible. I am so glad that you are Ok - and it's terrible about your Jeep.
However - please see a doctor - and request a neck X-ray if your neck hurts. Just to be on the safe side, as it is easy to fracture a vertebrae. Get some rest as well - I'm sure we will all be thinking of you.

  23. I am glad too! Please take it easy! That was a nasty experience, and not to be taken lightly. Thank goodness you are okay and were found relatively quickly.

  24. Nancy -

Hugs to you, we made it home safe.

My son and I went down to Bluff Country so that I could haul hay for the sheep and check on chickens and check on Nancy.

Her daughter was there when I called from the road.

We stopped and bought some Reeses Peanut butter cups (her favorite) and a pasta salad, and a broccoli salad, and pizza and cheese stffed pasta and marinara sauce. (I figured the salads would be good over the next few days... grab a fork, pop the top and eat!) I also brought the puppies some chew bones to give them a distraction!

I shoo'd her into the shower to wash all of the glass and gravel and stuff out of her hair and off her skin whle I made dinner.

She ate, which helped, I think.

She was going to head to bed after eating. I left some meds with her, too; if she is feeling worse. Unfortunately, I had to drive back home, so it was a very short visit.

Although a bit shaken, she is still our spunky Nancy!!

Get to a doctor. With the head smack you could have a concussion and those are nasty things to deal with. Better to go and have nothing wrong then not go and miss something. Sorry about the Jeep and glad you made it out mostly ok. Don't try to do too much too soon. Rest and recuperate.

  26. Whew! Thank goodness for you dear friend "Doc" coming out to find you! Do get checked out like Kelly suggested. Take care, rest as much as you are able. So glad you are still here to tell us about it!!

  36. Oh, my goodness!! I'm awfully glad that a concussion was the worst you got out of it, and that you are recovering!

Having gone to a 'wreck yard' and seen all the Jeeps there, I think you were very lucky... they aren't as sturdy as one might imagine by looking at them, and they do seem rather prone to rolling.

I'm going to go and say a huge Thank You to the Powers That Be now - I'm so glad that you are okay!!!
