Silly Boys....

* as always, click on any image to bigify *

Spring MUST be in the air ~ my rams are Nuts! They are chasing each other around, mounting each other and butting the Ghee-whilikers out of each other!

I have to get out there and trim hooves on the big galoots! Bling seems to be the instigator most of the time. He loves tormenting the big guys.

"Who, ME???"

Yes, You!!
"But we're Buddies!"

MASQUERADE says...

"Mom's gonna pick the Burdock out of my fleece today and give ME a pedicure!"

THAT ought to be fun...

MARCH MADNESS.....

*this is an active link:
click to view a web album of
Bluff Country White Knight*
FOR SALE: BLUFF COUNTRY WHITE KNIGHT ~ $300.00
For ONE MONTH ONLY, I am offering any of the breeding stock that I have for sale for $100.00 less than their usual price! This savings will apply ONLY to sheep purchased during the month of March and they must be paid for, in full, by the end of March, 2009.

I will try to compile web albums of each of the sheep that are for sale and will list their regular price. You deduct the $100.00 for each sheep that you want to purchase. This is a great opportunity to add HST genetics to your flock while saving a considerable amount of money! Starter flocks are available!

Rather than use this blog to post each sheep that is for sale, I will put a link, like above, to each of the featured sheep and anyone interested can view albums with many candid photos showing each sheep from lamb to present and from all angles and perspectives. The album of White Knight contains 85 photos, from newborn until the present. It's the closest I can get to letting you actually see the sheep ~ which can also be arranged.... :-)

Like Mother, Like SON???

This is Zaria's handsome son (by Sheltering Pines Crescent Moon),
"BLUFF COUNTRY BLING"

I think it's apparent that Zaria's modified genetics have transformed Moon's lovely moorit fleece into an exquisite MIOGET (soft, golden) fleece on their son!

And just Look At This Fleece...
;-)

Bling's dam, Zaria, does carry the "half-polled" gene (from her sire, Sheepy Hollow Zorro) and as a young lamb, I thought Bling might possibly be half-polled, as his horns were quite small and slow growing. However,

His horns have shown a remarkable growth spurt and are decidedly wider at the base now than they were last fall. I'm quite sure he will have lovely, wide sweeping horns. (but for those of you interested in breeding for polled rams, he might still be of value to your breeding goals....)

"Yup. He's a real cutie!"

Thank you for sharing that, Dreamer. We All value your opinion VERY highly!

SHEEP Pictures....

My girls (and boys!) have been feeling a bit neglected.

So yesterday, I ventured out to take some photographs.

These lovely ladies are Bluff Country Zodiak (Dream's mom), Bluff Country Godiva and Bluff Country Bella Luna (daughter of Zest).

All are bred to Kimberwood Hunter.
His other three girls wouldn't come out of their barn. (smart sheep!)

The boys were out, looking for food...

I marveled at the woolly cheeks and poll on Bluff Country Bling!

The BOYS in the BLUFF COUNTRY...

If there is one THEME apparent with the boys in the Bluff Country (other than the obvious, obnoxious one!) it appears to be Keep your friends close and your enemies closer!"

Notice Hunter and Moon in this series of photos...

My ROOSTERS (yes, Lucca is definitely a BOY) are also spending a lot more time together.

Bruce seems to enjoy the company of his son and is showing him how to be a rooster.

Lucca is really beginning to develop some beautiful color!

Only one more week until I separate off my breeding group.

Who will it be????

DREAM says...

"Diva and I aren't telling. But, I gotta say, that Alice sure is being a tart! All she does is stand by the fence and make GOO-Goo Eyes at Hunter!"

How Long Do We Have To WAIT???

In spite of the gorgeous, Indian Summer weather, my rams (and ewes!) sense changes in the air. Of course, it doesn't help that Alice stands by the fence, batting her eyelashes and wagging her tail at the boys!

I keep an empty paddock and at least two fence lines between the boys and the girls. The fact is, Bling and Night will probably not have the opportunity to "get to know any of the girls" this year. Unless someone wants to LEASE one of them...

I haven't decided if I will use Moon this year either. I'm only breeding 3 girls and I'm leaning toward using Hunter with them. It would make my life much easier if I only have one breeding group, a bachelor group and an unbred ewe group. I've still got a couple of weeks to decide. I don't put my breeding groups together until Thanksgiving weekend.

DREAM says...

"Mom said I've earned a rest this year. She said I deserve it because I had twins my first year and triplets my second. I guess I'll be in charge of keeping an eye on all of the ewe lambs and keeping them out of trouble!"

ANGEL says...

"You mean like PICKER BUSHES???"

Dreamer will have her work cut out for her!

Happier Topics...

OK. Enough dwelling on my sorrows! It's time to count my blessings and rejoice in the wonderful life that I live in the Bluff Country.

I want to share some pictures for my BBG. Katie "bought" Lucy from me. It seems my Beautiful Baby Girl wanted to help her Mom out and didn't want to make me feel more useless than I already did so she sent me a check for $50.00 and asked if she could buy Lucy. The fifty dollars is to cover Lucy's feed and care, since she'll have to stay here with me. Do I have great kids or what?????

Happy Family

On the left is "Bruce Springstein" my Silkie/cross rooster. On the right is "Madonna", my favorite hen (Silkie). And in between her Mom & Dad is Lucy ~ Madonna's baby! Isn't she big?

I was explaining to Katie that I'm not even sure if Lucy IS a Lucy ~ or possibly a "Lucca"? Notice the red comb? Madonna and Ann Margaret both have black combs. Bruce has a red comb. Is that a "BOY thing"?? Perhaps some of you chicken experts can share your opinions...

Neither Katie nor I really care one way another, although another egg layer would be welcome. I haven't had any eggs since I moved Madonna and Lucy back into the barn with Bruce & Annie. It's sure been fun watching Lucy grow! She/he and Madonna are inseparable.

White Night says....

..."Kind of like me and "Bling", ever since my buddy 'Shadow' and the other three guys left..."

Bella says:

"I just keep getting beautifuler and beautifuler!"

That you do, Bellamica...that you do!

"A-HEM!"

It goes without saying, Dreamer!!

I Never Tire of Looking at Their Faces...

"Bluff Country Bling"
