No New Moms on Mother's Day...

Zodiak and Bella Luna are taking their own sweet time.

Wouldn't you think they'd want to hurry up and "get it over with"???

Don't they look MISERABLE???

I think I've figured out the problem:

I decided that I'm not going to have the flock sheared until after everyone lambs. I believe that Zodiak & Bella Luna have decided not to lamb until after everyone is sheared!!

It's a standoff.

Wathcing and Waiting...

It's not even CLOSE to lambing time in the Bluff Country. I didn't put Hunter in with his girls until December 8th, last year! Wow! I had to look up the date (thank goodness I have everything documented on blogger!) I was thinking we'd be lambing at the end of April ~ I'll be more like early May!! I normally put my breeding groups together on Thanksgiving weekend. I guess I won't have to worry about there being green grass for my late-term ewes and the new lambs.

BELLA LUNA
So, we're not on the lookout for lambs, yet, in the Bluff Country. We ARE, however, on the lookout for SPRING.

We know it's out there somewhere...

There will be leaves and grass Any Day Now!

March is coming to the END.

Playing with my PREGGERS Girls...

*As always, click on any photo to enlarge *

I like to spend LOTS of time with my bred ewes as lambing time approaches. I want them very friendly and comfortable with me close by and handling them. Two of my girls who have remained somewhat reserved, right up 'till the past few days are
BLUFF COUNTRY GODIVA
(Flash Flood X Paco)
And BLUFF COUNTRY DESTINY
(Alice X Windswept Bravo)
After many hours and days of sitting and petting and scratching and Animal Crackers, Godiva & Destiny have finally decided that they like and trust me.

In fact, yesterday, I managed to get ALL of the burdock out of Godiva's fleece
and quite a bit out of Destiny.
(She's still not 100% sure that I should be able to pull on her fleece)
But she LOVES me!

EXERCISE is very important for bred ewes and my lovely Bellamica enjoys helping out in that department...
v I LOVE this picture! v

There's Just Not Enough TIME...

I managed to get the burdock picked out of Flash Flood and get her feet trimmed this morning. All the other girls gathered around to watch. I got LOTS of pictures but I'm afraid I don't have time to edit and post them now!

When I finished with Flash, I went out and sat with all my bred girls. They are looking GREAT! Destiny (Alice's shaela/emsket daughter) is finally getting friendly. She and Zaria stood and let me pick burdock without even putting them on halters.

I'll post more pictures tomorrow. I have to hop in the shower and get ready for WORK....

What a WONDERFUL Morning...

I sat with my sheep yesterday.
Why the heck haven't I done more of that?
I forgot how incredibly happy and at peace I feel when I sit with my sheep.

Yesterday was particularly special because I sat with the group of girls that are bred to Kimberwood Hunter. As a rule, these girls do not get as much attention from me as Dream and the other group of ladies in the front pasture. Alice's daughter, especially, has always been quite shy and unfriendly reserved. For some, unknown, reason, Destiny has finally decided that I'm OK! She actually LIKES it when I pet her. She loves it when I rub both sides of her head with my hands and reach deep down into her fleece to scratch her. Up until yesterday, the closest I could get to Destiny was holding a cookie in my outstretched hand which she would grab (frequently with the tip of my fingers!) and run. This is the first time that she has actually let me pet her. Now, it's hard to get a picture of her because she's always trying to come closer to me!

I love it when my sheep mob me...

Tomorrow I'm going to show you my favorite fleece and the ewe who grows it...

SHEEP Pictures....

My girls (and boys!) have been feeling a bit neglected.

So yesterday, I ventured out to take some photographs.

These lovely ladies are Bluff Country Zodiak (Dream's mom), Bluff Country Godiva and Bluff Country Bella Luna (daughter of Zest).

All are bred to Kimberwood Hunter.
His other three girls wouldn't come out of their barn. (smart sheep!)

The boys were out, looking for food...

I marveled at the woolly cheeks and poll on Bluff Country Bling!

Breeding Group...

I finally put my breeding group together! We had a major winter storm hit the area on Monday and into Tuesday so I had a couple of unexpected days at home. Monday I put my breeding group together.

Just one breeding group this year. Three of the ewes in the group no longer even belong to me. Those three are "Godiva" ~ fawn/mioget yearling out of Flash Flood and sired by Windswept Bravo (black & white, HST); Zodiak and Zest.

Those of you who know me, know that Zodiak and Zest are VERY special ewes to me. I didn't want to sell them. But the opportunity arose to place them in a home in which I knew that they would be loved, appreciated and cared for as much as they would be here. I had decided that there were only two couples in the world that I would entrust Zodiak and Zest to and one of them took me up on it.

This is my dear friend Linda Westover with Zodiak in 2005 (?)

Linda and her husband, Pete, drove all the way from Pennsylvania to purchase a ram lamb and a ewe lamb from me. During their one-day visit, a lifelong friendship was formed.

Pete & Zest

Oh yes, the sheep liked them too... ;-)

It's funny, the friendships that can be formed because of these incredible, little sheep. Linda and Pete have bought more sheep from me over the years. My Beautiful Baby Girl and I drove out to Pennsylvania, 2 years ago to deliver sheep, pick up Bella and visit with Linda and Pete. They have supported me through some of my darkest moments in my battle with depression. I truly love this wonderful couple. I feel good knowing that Zest and Zodiak will be spending the rest of their days with Linda and Pete. Plus, it means that we'll see each other again next summer! Zest and Zodiak will stay with me until arrangements can be made for Linda & Pete to pick them up sometime next summer. (no hurry!)

I will get to keep a lamb from Zest and Zodiak. I'm praying for an HST ewe lamb from Zest! I know that Zodiak will give me beautiful HST girls ~ she always does!

Godiva will also be staying on for a while in the Bluff Country. She is owned by my good friend Terry (the one I taught to spin ~ many years ago!) and Terry & her husband may have to put off retiring to their farm "up North" for another year or two because of the current economic conditions. Poor me ~ I'll have to suffer through another year or two of having this lovely little girl around....

I can't wait to see what she gives us for babies!!

That's it for now. I'm having trouble posting lately. I feel anxious and need to get away from the computer. I'll try to post pictures of the three of MY girls that are also in with Hunter since Monday. Soon.
