My Baby Sister and her Lamb...
* as always, click on any image to enlarge *
Although I don't feel strong enough to attend the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival (and MSSBA Shetland Sheep Show) this year, my sister Penny will be attending and showing with her daughter, Alicia, and the two ewe lambs they bought from me.
The show is next weekend (9/10) and Penny & Alicia have been working hard trying to get their lambs halter trained. Alicia is doing pretty well with "Kahlua" but Penny's a bit behind with "Tia Maria"...
Even though Penny tries to bribe Tia with cookies (animal crackers), Tia Maria is a stubburn little soul:
I don't think I've laughed so hard since my BC diagnosis!
Penny has tried talking with Tia...
But there still seems to be a bit of an 'attitude problem'!
Luckily for Tia Maria,
Penny still loves her very much!
If you're going to the WSWF please watch for Penny & Tia Maria in the ewe lamb class and cheer them on for me!

The Deed is Done...
De-worming my flock, that is.
Penny & Karma
My wonderful sister, Penny, and her daughter, Alicia, came out to help me worm all of the sheep yesterday.
"HELP!"
I don't usually use chemical dewormers but a couple of the lambs had pale eyelids so we did the whole flock. The weather has been so horribly hot and muggy that I don't want any added stressors on the sheep.
Some took it better than others.
Penny with Kahlua & Chance
(yes, Penny has a bag of cookies stuffed down the front of her shirt!)
Notice Karma standing tied behind Penny in the first photo? We decided that now was as good a time as any to start halter lessons on the girls that were harder to catch.
As always, that went over very well!
That's Tia Maria in the death throws. Penny's trying to bribe her with a cookie. Mimosa is looking on. She's already halter trained.
Everyone else seems pretty interested in that cookie!
I absolutely love the look of total disgust on Chance's face as Tia continues to fight the halter.
Mimosa was more than willing to demonstrate how to take the cookie out of Penny's hand!
When the ewes and lambs all had their medicine, it was time to move over to the ram pen.
I'm happy to say that my beautiful "Polar Bear" will be making his new home in Oregon ~ with LOTS of beautiful new girls waiting to make his acquaintance!
For those of you who are still hoping to add some Bluff Country genetics to your flock, I've still got a couple of awesome Polar Bear sons for sale...

Loving the Lambs...
My Beautiful Baby Girl took leave from the Navy to come home and take care of her Mama. Needless to say, I am a happy camper! Although Katie exhausts me with her constant working/cleaning/cooking/organizing (I was young once too!), she too is finding the time to relax and enjoy the perks of the Bluff Country...
Chance is so obnoxiously friendly that it's
OBNOXIOUS!
Little Angus doesn't want to get lost in the crowd.
Katie explains "the rule" for ram lambs:
Four feet on the ground and chin up!
It may look cute when they're little but a full grown ram MUST have a healthy respect for his owner or he WILL be trouble.
Angus seems willing to learn.
We introduced Zaria and her twins, Kahlua & Mimosa to the rest of the flock today.
Mimosa was a bit shy at first
But Katie reassured her it would be fun.
I'm not too sure that Mimosa was convinced!
All in all, it was a beautiful day in the Bluff Country and the Katie's getting great fodder for her Facebook page...
DREAM says...
"It's getting pretty crowded around here! How's a girl supposed to get any privacy???
I've got an idea...check back tomorrow!"
What are you up to NOW, Dreamer?

Godiva's Twins...
Their first time out of the jug.
Twin ewe lambs!
Terry (Godiva's owner) will keep the white one ~ which she has named "Mia Blanca" (Italian for "My White"). Terry was hoping for a white ewe lamb. I LOVE the name Mia Blanca!
For their first time out of the jug, these girls were quite adventurous and the little moorit was especially 'bouncy'.
Godiva introduces her girls to their sire:
"Bluff Country Polar Bear"
Mia Blanca has tan socks and tan hearts on her knees!
Her sister (I'm calling her "Flame" ~ short for Eternal Flame because the feathery smirslet markings on her head remind me of flames dancing ) is a real sweety who loves to be petted....
Terry (Godiva's owner) somehow got the silly idea in her head that she and her husband are going to retire and move 'up north' to their retirement farm. And take Godiva and her babies with them!
I'm not so sure I can let them go...
:-(
Who ever said "you can't keep them all"?
And who made them boss???
