She's Home!

"Mom's finally home from the hospital!"

Dream's right, I am finally home.  For someone who hates to be away from home for more than a couple of hours, this past week was NOT fun.  We won't even talk about the pain and multiple surgeries...

Of course, the first thing that I just had to do when I got home was to go out and see my sheep.  Well, it was the first thing that I did after I pealed Bella and Sable off of me.
;-)

Needless to say, I couldn't wait to see my beautiful Destiny and her triplets!
Two handsome boys:

I call this one "Angus" ~ he's gorgeous!

And their most irresistible little sister:

Who has completely captured my heart!

The rest of he girls were apparently waiting for me to come home.  I got home around seven o'clock, Thursday night and Godiva had twin ewe lambs at nine o'clock!!!

more later ~ I'm going to go check on the girls and take some pictures of Godiva and her babies...

(it's so good to be home)
There's no place like home
There's no place like home
There's NO PLACE like home!

DREAM says...

"It's a good thing you're back, Mom.  Some of the girls weren't sure they could wait much longer!  That Alice sure is stubborn ~ she wasn't about to have her babies when you weren't here..."

It is SO Hot...

Even the sheep are sweating!

OK so maybe they're not really sweating but Alice's daughters, "Princess" (left) and "Duchess"  are damp.  It's from the morning dew.  We get so much dew around here that it keeps the pastures green, even during a drought!

Alice's son, "Duke" enjoys the cooler morning temperatures
He is such a handsome ram lamb!

I definitely want to keep one of Alice's girls.
That's Princess on the left and Duchess coming at the camera.

I just can't make up my mind which one!

I do SO love my Princess...

Duke says...

"Hey!  What about ME?"

"What am I?"

"Chopped Liver???
Of course not, Duke!  You're a very handsome ram lamb and there is already someone very much in love with you.  You may be moving to a new home very soon...

Dream says...

"Maybe THEN Flashdance and I will have our babies!
That's right ~ we're just waiting 'till there's
more room!"

(I'm still not even sure that she's pregnant!)

Trying to Beat the Heat

Destiny's triplets

The humidity levels have been ridiculously high (93 percent as I write this) in the Bluff Country.  Which makes for miserable days and foggy nights.  I got up this morning just in time to catch a few photos of the sheep before the fog lifted.

Destiny's handsome son, "Tumbleweed".
He is absolutely gorgeous!

Tumbleweed reminds me very much of "Skittles".

Alice and Destiny relaxing with their triplets.

Chance and Serendipity stay pretty close together now that Charm  has gone off to her new home.

What a beautiful morning!

I even held down a branch so the ewes and lambs could have a treat.

Alice wasn't too thrilled with having to share.

By 8:30, the fog was lifting...

Most of the girls went back to the coolness of the barn.
Leaving me out there to swelter.

DREAM says...

"Don't worry.
You'll be the first to know!"

(not even close!)

P.S.  I'm adding a new link to my side bar.  It will take you to my Examiner.com "Backyard Chickens" column.  I don't mean to be pathetic but I get paid by the number of visitors to my Examiner site.  If you'd like to see what I'm writing about (and help me out at the same time!) please visit.
I don't make a lot of money as a free-lance writer but every little bit helps.  They pay me based on how many people visit my column, how many leave comments and how many subscribe to get email notification when I post a new column.  Regardless of whether or not you chose to check out my Examiner column, I'm sure glad that you're here!

Not EvenTWO MONTHS Old...

I was trying to get some current pictures of the lambs this morning.
They grow SO quickly!  Of course, they were extremely uncooperative and all they would do was keep their heads down and graze.

I did manage to get a shot of Alice and her triplets, coming out of the calf hut where they choose to sleep at night...

I knew I had a picture of Alice with the triplets when they were only a day old so I dug it up...

Isn't that incredible?
Those babies won't even be two months old until  July 1st!

Something that makes me very happy:

I don't know if you can see it or not (click to enlarge) but my beautiful lady still has all her teeth!
She's TEN YEARS OLD, folks!

God, I love that ewe...

Feeding Time at the Zoo...

Since I don't suppliment any of my lambs, I give ewes with Triplets a little "lamb creep feed" every day.  I figure it's got to be pretty nutritious and the lambs always "help" eat it.

If you click to enlarge this photo, check out the fleece on the cheeks and poll of Duchess!
Her fleece is incredibly soft as well.

Alice, Duke, Duchess and Princess stand at the gate, calling for me every day to remind me to bring them their food.  It gets a little competitive at the trough/er ~ feed bowl.

Of course, Alice isn't the only ewe with Triplets.
Destiny and her gang also come in  for their creep feed.

I need to get another big pan!
Look how tiny "Kiss" is compared to her brothers!
And how dark her moorit fleece is!  She may actually be a dark brown...

After lunch, Alice and Destiny take their babes back out to the main pasture.
(look at the tails on those lambs!)

When I open the gate to let Alice & Destiny out,  poor Chance always rushes in looking for anything that was missed.

I'm afraid it's pretty Slim Pickins'
That's OK.   Chance doesn't look like she really needs any extra feed!

Now, Charm (Bluff Country Lucky Charm) is another story:

She'll kick and drag that dish all over the paddock, looking for food!
Poor baby...

Fortunately, Charm and her beautiful sister, Serendipity, seem to be growing just fine.

DREAM says...

"Mom doesn't think we've seen the last of the triplets for this year!   Stay tuned to see if she's right.  It won't be much longer..."

AGAIN With the Rain...

It's another grey and rainy day in the Bluff Country.
The kind of day that gives me a chance to do some work INSIDE the house.  I've been busy cleaning (chicken pens ~ not the house, you silly!) and washing fleeces and updating my website!

Lot's of cute pictures of the lambs on the website
What's the weather like where YOU live?
