REALITY Check....

Everyone's posting their lovely photos of lilac buds and blooming crocuses. I thought I'd give you a glimpse of the Other side of Spring. The side that I'm dealing with in the Bluff Country...

I spent my morning...
Picking up poop.

Don't get me wrong; I actually enjoy picking up poop. And with two, mid-sized dogs, there's plenty for me to pick up. Especially considering that I do not bother to do it during the winter months.

In my never-ending-attempts to be a frugal shepherd, I'm using the poop to fill in holes that the dogs dug in the backyard last fall (chasing gophers & chipmunks, I suppose). Then I'll just need to top off the holes with a little top soil and some grass seed. I'm hopeful that the fact that the holes are filled with dog poop will deter both the dogs and the gophers from digging in those areas again...

That it does, Dreamer! I'm heading into town to get some potting soil and seed starter pots so that I can start some pumpkin and Impatience seeds! I'm also going to get some fertilizer and seed for the pastures...

I like to spend LOTS of time with my bred ewes as lambing time approaches. I want them very friendly and comfortable with me close by and handling them. Two of my girls who have remained somewhat reserved, right up 'till the past few days are

After many hours and days of sitting and petting and scratching and Animal Crackers, Godiva & Destiny have finally decided that they like and trust me.

In fact, yesterday, I managed to get ALL of the burdock out of Godiva's fleece
and quite a bit out of Destiny.
(She's still not 100% sure that I should be able to pull on her fleece)
But she LOVES me!

EXERCISE is very important for bred ewes and my lovely Bellamica enjoys helping out in that department...

I Got LOST...

MASQUERADE
This is supposed to be a "sheep" blog. So I'm going to post pictures of sheep.
But what's really on my mind is that I got LOST, driving home from work last night!


I'm not kidding. I was really lost!
As in, "none of this looks familiar, where the heck am I?" lost.

I was so completely disoriented that I was actually scared!
Nothing looked familiar and I couldn't figure out where I went wrong!

Did I miss the turn off the main road?

Or did I miss the turn onto "my" road?

Did I go too far?



Or maybe not far enough?


I finally turned around and went "back" (to where?)


I came to a stop sign and a 'T' in the road, but I didn't know which way to turn!
Nothing looked familiar!
I turned left. A sign said North 76. That's close to "my" road. But nothing looked familiar and I still didn't know if I'd passed my road or not gotten to it yet!
I drove a short distance and finally saw something that I recognized! A nursery with trees wrapped in protective coating so the deer couldn't eat their tender bark. What a welcome sight! I knew that if I was where I thought I was, there should be a church coming up next. There WAS! (thank GOD)

I turned back around and went the 1/2 mile down the road to turn onto County 4. MY road. I focused on one familiar landmark after another as I drove the final 8 miles to my house.

That was scary!

There's Just Not Enough TIME...

I managed to get the burdock picked out of Flash Flood and get her feet trimmed this morning. All the other girls gathered around to watch. I got LOTS of pictures but I'm afraid I don't have time to edit and post them now!

When I finished with Flash, I went out and sat with all my bred girls. They are looking GREAT! Destiny (Alice's shaela/emsket daughter) is finally getting friendly. She and Zaria stood and let me pick burdock without even putting them on halters.

I'll post more pictures tomorrow. I have to hop in the shower and get ready for WORK....

I have to get out there and trim hooves on the big galoots! Bling seems to be the instigator most of the time. He loves tormenting the big guys.

I'm too tired to create a post for today, so I simply copied an email that I sent in response to an email I received from my beloved daughter this morning...

Good Morning Princess!

I'm a little (actually a LOT) tired.

I had a rough night last night. Apparently, I had an allergy attack while I was at work.
It was very strange though. I felt fine when I got to work but within an hour, I started to get a really bad earache in my right ear. After a couple of hours the pain traveled into my jaw and throat. The gland on the right side of my neck was quite swollen. Later, I had the earache, a headache, a sore throat and a queasy stomach. By 6 o'clock, I was feeling light headed and dizzy. NOT good! The last straw was the phone call I was on around 7 pm. I started coughing ~ that deep-barky cough that one gets when it's coming from deep in the lungs. I would cough so hard I almost threw up. Somehow, I made it threw that call (very patient customer, thank God!) but I was done. I logged off my phone and just sat there and coughed for about a half hour. I was getting real 'wheezy' sounding and my boss wanted me to go to the hospital. I managed to suck on a cough drop and although I had to clear my throat, constantly, the coughing subsided a bit when I wasn't talking. I rested for a while and then came home and took two allergy pills and went to bed! I'm better this morning, though my throat is sore from coughing so hard. My ear is still a little sore ~ which tells me there is still some swelling in my system. I think I'll take an allergy pill and a nap and hope that I'm able to go to work this afternoon...

Don't worry though! The worst is definitely over and I have my allergy pills, Prednisone and even an Epi pen here at home if I need them. If I do go to work, I'll take it all with me...
