Empty Nest Syndrome???

"I'm thinking it's entirely possible that Mom has LOST IT. Seriously. She's gone off the deep end. Not only is she completely NEGLECTING us sheep, she's gone out and bought a bunch more CHICKENS!!

Now, I'm not mentioning any names, but SOME of the girls are starting to act out! They're getting into stuff that they aught not to be getting into...

Mom was going to post a bunch of pictures of her new chickens but I put one of my feet down and said *THIS IS A BLOG ABOUT SHEEP! DO YOU SEE THE TITLE? A SHEPHERD'S VOICE ~ NOT
A CHICKEN FARMERS VOICE!*

I hate to be so rough, but sometimes a girl's just gotta lay down the law!"

Thank you, Dreamer.

Tomorrow ~ MEET MY NEW CHICKENS!!

(sorry, Dreamer!)

Oh my Black Cochin we lost our Hank awhile ago. He was the best, followed you everywhere. Can't wait too see the others. I just love your pictures. With your pictures I have my farm. Yes, Dreamer I did miss your pictures, but chickens are beautiful also.

  2. YES! "Shine" is a black Cochin. I was hoping to find a blue ~ but the breeder I met (has been raising and showing chickens for almost 50 years!) doesn't raise blues. He said they're not "true to type" so he won't breed for them. I fell in love with Shine and bought him and a pair of black hens who are proven producers. I'll keep them in a separate group so that I can raise pure-bred chicks...

(P.S. I also bought a breeding group of pure bred Blue Ameraucanas!!)

  3. I didn't realize you needed more poopers.

In that top photo, what is that line called when it's 1/2 white and 1/2 black on the face? I know on horses it's called something but can't remember anymore.

  4. I love how you told the story through the sheep's point of view Nancy. Very cute face shots! I'm glad you're getting into poultry, there are so many cool breeds out there. Can't wait to see photos of your new chickens.

  5. Gasp! I love cochins! I'd love a few! Oh Nancy they are such wonderful broodies! Get yourself a cochin hen, and you will have lot of little fluffies to love on.

  7. Gorgeous rooster Nancy - I told you they were
addictive. Is he a standard or bantam size. I love the standard size - they are so big and fluffy! I went out this weekend as well - and got some more chickens. Have to get the camera out and put them on my blog as well.

  9. Ooo he's a good looking cock. And blues not being "true to type" is a crock of sheep poo...I've seen some REALLY nice blues, some nicer than blacks. Mottleds are really coming along nicely too. I was fortunate enough to go to the Crossroads Indiana show in Indianapolis a couple years ago...amazing show. Many thousands of beautiful birds...I'm not suprised you like the cochins though, they're wonderful birds. The bantams are a bit more fiesty than their larger counterparts, but still loveable :)
