It is SO Dreary....

I have every light in the house turned on.
Thank God (and my BBG!) for my "Happy Light"!
I am really needing some Sunshine!!

So, I went out to the barn and took some pictures...
Right now, the brightest, most colorful thing at my place is
LUCCA
Isn't he awesome?

Since Katie recently sent me a "board payment" for her Rooster (Thank you, Sweetie!), I thought she might enjoy a few updated photos of her beautiful boy.
Now, I know that these next couple of pictures are out of focus, but I SO want to show Katie a picture of Lucca CROWING...

and these are the best I could get!

Wathcing and Waiting...

It's not even CLOSE to lambing time in the Bluff Country. I didn't put Hunter in with his girls until December 8th, last year! Wow! I had to look up the date (thank goodness I have everything documented on blogger!) I was thinking we'd be lambing at the end of April ~ I'll be more like early May!! I normally put my breeding groups together on Thanksgiving weekend. I guess I won't have to worry about there being green grass for my late-term ewes and the new lambs.

BELLA LUNA
So, we're not on the lookout for lambs, yet, in the Bluff Country. We ARE, however, on the lookout for SPRING.

We know it's out there somewhere...

There will be leaves and grass Any Day Now!

March is coming to the END.

No Longer in Her Mother's Shadow...

BLUFF COUNTRY DESTINY

Born one of a set of triplets,
Destiny was quietly kept away from the other lambs and from ME (the shepherdess!) pretty much all of the time until I separated her from her dam so that I could put her in a breeding group this year.

Alice is pretty good about that ~ keeping her ewe lambs away from me so I can't make friends with them!

Destiny is two years old now and finally decided that I can be trusted!

She has found her niche in the flock and is maturing into a stunning ewe.

Destiny is sired by Windswept Bravo (black & white, HST) and I can't WAIT to see what she gives me for lambs next month....
Destiny is emsket and Hunter is also "modified"/HST, so I'm hoping for modified, HST lambs from Alice's beautiful daughter...

Can You See It???

Do you see the likeness?

Do you know who this is?

I think she looks SO much like her dam...

I can see it in the way she carries herself.

I love her Arrogance!

I thought her fleece was going to be Shaela but it's apparent now that she's actually Emsket (Dusky, bluish grey).

I'll finish this post, later today. I want to see who knows who this lovely ewe is. She is bred to Hunter for late-April lambs...

My Beautiful Bellmica...

I am never alone. Whether I'm in the house or outside with my sheep, my beautiful Bellamica is always at my side (or nearby anyway!).

She loves 'helping me' feed the sheep and enjoys spending time out in the pasture with the flock.

The sheep all know and trust her and are quite used to having Bella in their midst. Some of them (Zaria in particular) even seem to be quite fond of her!
Bella never chases the sheep (without permission, anyway!) but some of them like to chase her. Godiva, Bella Luna and Destiny take great pride in stomping their feet and chasing "poor" Bellamica.

Here, Bella offers Destiny a peace offering...
Even when she's sitting by me for attention, Bella keeps a watchful eye on the ewes. This is the look she gets when someone is about to come after her....
All in all, Bellamica (a purebred English Shepherd) has become an irreplaceable member of the Bluff Country Family!

ROOING Hunter...

Here's the thing...

I had apparently bumped a button on my camera. Since I can't actually SEE what any of the buttons say, I didn't realize that it wasn't on the correct setting. Kind of a cool photo though, don't ya think???
My beautiful Hunter (Kimberwood Hunter) was SUCH a good boy for rooing! I tied him in the little barn in my backyard and plucked away. He was shedding noticeably on his back so I rooed the 'saddle area' on his back up to his neck.
I got about 4 1/2 ounces of VERY nice wool!
And there's lots more where that came from!!

;-)

Boring Post....

Nothing new or exciting happening in the Bluff Country.

Although, I did make some new friends this weekend! A couple of gals from my area came over to meet me and my flock and to spin. They even bought a bunch of fleece and some roving and yarn! Best of all, I've got two, new friends who love sheep and LIVE NEAR BY!! The one gal ~ "Lynn" also raises sheep and I can't wait to go visit her flock. She's got several different breeds and is also breeding up Gotlands! I'll be visiting her farm soon...

In the meantime. I burned the ditch that was so full of weeds, yesterday. Got it done before the winds kicked up and it's supposed to rain for the next few days so I'm very glad that I got that done. I'll be fencing it in to use for pasture this year.
Zaria so loves to have her neck scratched! When I scratch her withers, she returns the favor by scratching my arm with her teeth! I wanted to show my new friends her beautiful fleece, but the little shit wouldn't let me catch her when strangers were here! GRRRR!
Here's another close up of her fleece. Lynn & Jean were very impressed by the fleece on my flock and I wanted to let them feel Zaria's because it is the softest and silkiest. Lynn and Jean had to settle for looking at pictures. And I was so miffed at Zaria that I assured them that they weren't missing anything ~ "she has fleece like steel wool" anyway! (NOT!!)

Reading other blogs this morning, reminds me that Hunter is starting to lose fleece and I want to get out there an try rooing him! If it's not raining and I can manage to do it myself, I'll post some pictures tomorrow...

"Have a HAPPY day!"
